Foster Care Services
Small Group Homes

Foster Care Services and our Small Group Home provide the most family-like care we can achieve for over 100 children and young people who cannot live with their birth families due to some crisis in their home. Some of our children are bound for new adopting families; for others the plan is a return to their home and birth parents as soon as possible.

Adoption Services

Mother’s Choice works to find a loving adoptive family for every waiting child whose birth parents are unable to provide care. We provide education and support for families, which is crucial at different stages of their adoption journey, and we raise understanding and knowledge about adoption in our society.

FAQ
What are the duties of the parents in the Small Group Homes?
The parents of the Small Group Homes are married couples. The father has a full time job outside the home and will be required to return to the Small Group Home in the evening to have dinner with the children. After dinner, he is expected to help the children with their school work and supervise them. During holidays, he is expected to take the children out for activities so as to broaden their horizons.
The mother will be working full time in the Small Group Home. Her main focus is to attend to the daily needs of the children and to care for them as they grow up. She will also be working with the child’s school, his/her social worker and the psychologist to cater to the needs of the children.
How many children does Mother’s Choice care for?
At Child Care Home we can care for around 35 to 40 at any given time, well over 100 during a year. We facilitate over 100 babies and older children being cared for in foster homes or small group homes until they can join an adoptive family or return to their birth family.
Where are the babies and children at Child Care Home from?
Most of the babies and children are awaiting adoption and are referred to us by hospitals or other social work organizations or from Mother’s Choice’ other services. They are under the guardianship of the Social Welfare Department.
What is foster care?
We provide a home for 100 children and young people who cannot live with their birth families. We strive to give the children in our care everything that a normal child’s life should be: a good day at school, a warm and comfortable place to come home to, dinner together with the people who care for you, support for the difficult times, and fun activities and special experiences that develop each child’s potential and talents.
How does the adoption process work in Hong Kong?
The home study process can be conducted by Mother’s Choice, Adoption Unit of Social Welfare Department, International Social Service (Hong Kong Branch) or Po Leung Kuk. After being approved as a suitable adoptive family, you will have the opportunity to be put on the matching panel. The matching is conducted by the Social Welfare Department. Once the child is matched to the family, there will be a minimum of 6-month placement period that is supervised by the Social Welfare Department. The Court will examine each application to ensure that the adoption is in the best interests of the child before an Adoption Order is granted after the placement.
