Friendship is a form of love in itself, but mind you, no sex is involved.  But when two people of the opposite sex have such a strong friendship that they wish to spend their lives loving and cherishing one another, this love of friendship changes into a marital love, and sexual union, which is commonly mistaken as love, is there to be enjoyed.
