Our Child Care Home has been home to thousands of children since we opened our doors in 1989. Our holistic approach promotes each child’s physical, mental, psychological, and social development, enabling them to reach their full potential and to eventually meet their forever family.
At Mother’s Choice, we advocate for the needs of the children who cannot speak for themselves. Our Child Care Home has been home to thousands of children since we opened our doors in 1989 who, for a variety of reasons, are awaiting a permanent family. Our holistic caring model promotes healthy growth in each child’s physical, mental, psychological and social development to enable them to reach their full potential and to eventually meet their forever family.
HOW WE DO IT
We are strong advocates of early intervention therapies and from the moment a child come through our doors, they receive individualized care that is customized to each child’s needs. We have a multi-disciplinary team of professionals – physiotherapist, occupational therapist, speech therapist, registered nurses, registered social workers and child care workers – who provide a professional yet loving care to our babies and children plus 450+ volunteers a month to provide further TLC. There are two areas of care:
Baby Care provides loving, nurturing care and a stimulating environment for newborns and infants to prepare them for life in a forever family. We are licensed by the Social Welfare Department to care for up to 32 newborns and infants up to two years old. Our multi-disciplinary team in Baby Care prepares and assists the children to adjust smoothly to an adoptive home. Recognizing the importance of parent support and education, Mother’s Choice also provides support and resources for both birth parents and adoptive parents.
Wee Care offers loving, nurturing care and therapy for up to 12 children, from newborn to six years old, with special needs and awaiting adoption. The emphasis in Wee Care is to tailor each child’s care to their individual needs in a safe, stimulating environment to enable each one to develop to their fullest potential and increase their opportunity for adoption.
Shortly after the four of us read the SCMP article, we called a press conference to announce Mother’s Choice’s launch and literally within hours, we had a call from the Queen Mary Hospital asking if we had space for a pregnant teenage girl. She arrived and spent the first night in a makeshift pantry and the very next morning, she started her labour and actually had the baby before the ambulance arrived!
Aside from not having anticipated such an early response to our service, what shocked me most was her response when the medic asked her to hold the baby while he carried the stretcher. She hysterically cried, “I don’t want to se the baby”, “I don’t want to hear the baby” and “I don’t want to feel the baby” over and over.
I felt the reaction of the baby through the tone of his cries – my heart broke for him. It was a pivotal moment and we knew then that we also needed to love these children and help them find families.

ADOPTION WAIT TIME
We have drastically shortened the time for a child awaiting adoption from 3-4 years (in 1976) to 3-4 months (today)
