Teens in crisis, children without parents waiting for adoption, and families broken apart by crises – these are the painful issues that Mother's Choice took on more than 25 years ago. Today, no less than when we were created by a small group of concerned citizens in 1987, we are guided every day by our Mission Statement: Mother’s Choice provides and promotes loving, nurturing care for babies and children needing permanent homes, and for single girls and their families facing crisis pregnancies. Throughout this Web site you will find evidence of our unwavering commitment to these goals.
In our early days, more than a quarter century ago, people didn't even want to talk about many of these problems, and scared young people had no place to turn for information and assistance. So Mother's Choice was born to provide and promote this much-needed care. Unfortunately, the core issues remain as present and important as ever.
Over the past 25 years, Mother's Choice has provided counseling and shelter to over 51,000 single girls facing crisis pregnancies; cared for over 3,600 babies in the loving environment of our Child Care Home and Foster Care Programme; become a leader in early intervention for children with special needs and provided therapies and love for over 2,600 babies and children; and assisted with the adoption of over 1,200 babies locally and over 200 special needs children around the world. Mother's Choice has also provided sex education and training to over 510,000 children and parents in local schools.
Over the years we have grown into a ‘Circle of Related Services’ all devoted to the issues of women, children and families in need, sexuality and relationships and pregnancy, and ensuring that every baby and child has a permanent loving home. Our four services serve these goals: Pregnant Girls Services, a Child Care Home (that includes Baby Care for healthy infants and Wee Care for children with special needs), Adoption Services, and Foster Care and Small Group Homes. Also key to our mission are the hundreds of volunteers and many kinds of community support make this work possible…
Today this compassion, care, education and advocacy work reaches tens of thousands of children, young people, and families each year – although we are aware that we still cannot reach everyone who needs a helping hand…. Mother’s Choice has also inspired sister organizations to extend this model of care to other communities in Asia: Mother’s Love/Radiant Hope (Guangxi Province, China), Mother’s Hope (Nagaland, India), and Mother’s Heart (Phnom Penh, Cambodia).
All of this has been possible thanks to the love and commitment of thousands of supporters from every part of the Hong Kong community and from around the world. Thank you for visiting our Web site, for considering being part of the Mother’s Choice circle and for sharing our vision. We hope you will join us in our work and activities in the year to come.
