Building Positive Self Esteem in Children of Adoption

Summary:
  • Like all children, children of adoption need to feel loved and be assured they have a future. Children who have a more positive self esteem will have the courage to attempt and develop new skills, to make friends and maintain those friendships, and to understand their feelings.

    This session will review the concept and development of self esteem, and discuss strategies for a more positive self esteem in children of adoption.

Specialist consultant on children at risk and international trainer

Janette Pepall brings to the field of children and families over 20 years learning and professional experience in Australia, Asia and Africa.

She has qualifications in Social Welfare, Anthropology and Training and has been a case worker and a manager in adoptions (national and international), foster care, small group homes and institutions, child protection and counseling in Australia and Hong Kong.

Janette has been a Key Note and Plenary Speaker in many conferences in Australia and Asia and specializes in the field of children at risk.

She has also adopted 5 children from Australia, Vietnam, Sri Lanka and Hong Kong. They were active in adoptive parent groups and adoption advocacy for over thirty years.

As an adoptive and birth mother and a professional in the area of children at risk, Janette has the ability to apply complex processes, theories and systems and to contextualize them for the field. As an educator, she brings practical and competency based training, within a Christian framework.
