Preface
Mother’s Choice is committed to the promotion of sex education in schools, encouraging students of all ages to learn the facts, establish positive values and cultivate their own beliefs - placing them in a confident position for informed decision-making. In the 2009/10 academic year, we held 248 sessions at universities, tertiary
institutions, secondary and primary schools, reaching more than 40,000 students, teachers, parents and
social workers.
Sex education is an essential subject for children and youngsters of all backgrounds and inspires the concept
of ‘self worth’ while raising awareness of related challenges that might be encountered when moving toward adulthood. We believe that sex education is “an education of love and virtues” not only relating to sexual
activities, but encompassing values, health, safety, personal growth, intimate bodily contact, sexual roles and desire as well. The earlier a student understands accurate sexual information, the more likely that the student
will demonstrate rational sexual actions.
Our services have recently expanded to include primary, special needs and minority students living in Hong Kong. In the 2010/11 academic year, we will continue to provide sex education for schools, supporting youngsters and addressing important and socially relevant subjects.
We will continue the momentum of our “Pregnant Daddy / Pretend-to-be Mummy” project, which we consider
to be an engaging and interesting way for students to understand the feelings, bodily changes and challenges faced relating to pregnancy. The aim of the project is to achieve an understanding of the requisites for parenting and to dissuade unplanned pregnancies.
We would like to take this opportunity to express our gratitude to the Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust for
its continued support. The successful promotion of sex education is a collaborative effort and relies heavily on
the cooperation of the educational institution’s management, teachers, parents and social workers. Our goal is
for students to be able to confidently establish a positive sense of value and informed judgment towards sex, in preparation for their growth and choices in life.
