I have served as a foster mom for more than ten years now. Looking back, I experienced so much joy, as well as sadness and frustration.

I remembered the first child I fostered was a four-year-old girl with Down’s syndrome. She was a happy, sweet girl and very imitative. One day, we were told that she was going to join her adoptive family, and would leave us soon. I really hated to part with her. I spent over two months grieving the loss and to stop my tears from running down my cheeks. I prayed and sent my blessings to my little darling.

Later on, I took care of a ten-month-old girl. When we first met, she looked like a boy to me with a lovely round face. Two months later, she was hospitalized because of high fever. The doctor found out that she had congenital heart disease and asthma, and had suffered from pneumonia, tympanitis and intussusceptions before. After recognizing the unexpected situation, I kept asking myself how I could take care of such a seriously sick child. Her asthma would frequently come back during Christmas and Chinese New Year time. Coughing kept her up all night. She could only sit up and sleep on my chest. Once when her asthma was especially serious, I had to rush her to the Emergency room. Upon reaching the triage station, the child had to be put on oxygen. I was so frightened that tears kept running down my cheeks. I prayed for God’s mercy to heal her, and not take her away from my arms. After we were sent to the ward for 30 minutes, a miracle happened. The asthma was gone and she was able to walk in the room. I thanked God for answering my prayer. After taking medication for four years, her situation is much improved. Now, the lovely little one has grown up healthily. She is the most beloved angel in my life.

Story 1 Time flies. I am fostering my ninth baby now. When I first joined the foster care services, I thought to myself I can take care of my family and at the same time do something meaningful in my leisure time, endue my two daughters with positive messages. This is the first reason why I applied for foster parent. Secondly, I really love babies. Their innocent smiles, lovely and lively characters and impulsive actions are so inspiring that no one could really resist. Time goes so fast when you are with them. Watching them grow up healthily, the contentment I feel no words can describe. I am lucky to have a meaningful semi-volunteering job which I am fond of. I am also thankful to my family for their support and helping hands taking care of the little ones with me. Foster mom, Mrs. Lee from Tin Shui Wai
