This Mother’s Day, TVB’s Sunday Report featured the story of our Safe Families programme. Mary is a working mum and Safe Families volunteer who, together with her family, walks alongside young mothers supported by Mother’s Choice. One of those mothers is Ching Ching, 25, who is raising her daughters on her own while her husband lives apart from the family. “Sometimes there are things only another woman can understand,” she shared. With Mary and her family by their side, Ching Ching and her daughters no longer feel alone.
For Mary, it is simply about showing up. “I encourage her: you’re already doing so well. I hope she can relax a little, and then find the courage to keep going,” she said.

Michelle Lam, our Safe Families manager, shares that more than half of the young mothers aged 25 and under supported by Mother’s Choice choose to raise their children themselves, yet many lack community and family support. A volunteer stepping in at the right moment can be the first step towards real change for these families.
