Mr Chung was sitting outside the paediatric intensive care unit, watching children with tubes and medical equipment around them. In that moment, something shifted. He made a quiet decision to care for more children in need.
A few years earlier, his four-year-old daughter was diagnosed with a cerebral cavernous malformation and underwent multiple brain surgeries. It was a painful and uncertain time for the family, but they walked through it together with strength and unity. During those long hospital days, witnessing both his daughter’s journey and the situations of other children in hospital, Mr Chung and his wife began to feel a deeper calling: to offer care beyond their own family. With the support of Mother’s Choice, they became a foster family.
In an interview with Smart Parents, Mr Chung shared their fostering journey and the love that shaped it. Today, their daughter is recovering well. The arrival of a foster child also brought new warmth to the family, with their daughter embracing her role as an older sister as they grew up together. The foster child was later matched with an adoptive family. While Mr Chung felt a deep sense of loss, he was also grateful to see the child move forward into a permanent home.
Reflecting on life’s joys and sorrows, Mr Chung shared: “We take each day as it comes. And we choose to live each day with gratitude and joy.”
