Adoption has the power to change everything for a child. Brandy, our Manager of Adoption Services, has witnessed this transformation many times. But there’s one little girl’s story that she will never forget: this little girl spent much of her early childhood in institutional care. Trust didn’t come easily to her. She was afraid of rejection and had missed out on so many of the small but essential moments that help a child feel safe and loved.
Her adoptive parents saw this. They didn’t shy away from her pain; instead, they leaned in. They gave her the space to act like a baby, even as a primary school student, because they knew she needed to experience what she had missed.
Slowly, she began to learn how to trust.
