They’re not just volunteers, they’re my family.
In her interview with The Voice, Janet shared how she unexpectedly became pregnant with twins at 25. She felt lost and helpless, and even attempted suicide. Thankfully, she later reached out to Mother’s Choice and joined Safe Families, where she was matched with three volunteers for support. During her toughest moments, these volunteers encouraged her, organised birthday celebrations, listened to her, and accompanied her as she cared for her daughters.
Volunteers Janice and Angela, both from Solomon’s Porch, have been walking alongside Janet’s family for many years. Janice said in the interview that she initially worried about balancing work, family and volunteering, but later realised that offering timely care and support can be one of the greatest encouragements for families in need. Angela shared that her church began promoting foster care and ministries supporting single mothers in 2015, hoping to help even more vulnerable families.
Safe Families is committed to collaborating with community partners to support young mothers, and churches play an important role in this work. Michelle Lam, Manager of Safe Families, hopes that more volunteers will join and build long term, trusting relationships with young mothers, walking with them through their parenting journey.
