She chose to go to her birth mother’s tummy first, and then come to our family.
During the COVID pandemic, Susan and her husband met their then one-year-old daughter at our Child Care Home. What was originally meant to be a waiting period of several weeks was cut short by the pandemic. Susan and her husband had just days to bring their daughter home. The whole family pulled together, buying baby supplies and getting everything in order, to welcome their new member, Natasha.
Susan spoke to Smart Parents about their adoption journey. She has always been open with Natasha and those around her about Natasha’s adopted identity, never shying away from it. Though some may misunderstand or judge birth mothers, Susan holds deep gratitude for the loving decision Natasha’s birth mother made.
“I don’t know what she went through, but at least she brought my daughter into this world,” Susan said. “Life comes with many choices, and none of them are easy. She chose adoption for her child.”
Susan’s full story is featured in Issue 826 of Smart Parents, published on 30 April.
