We’d love you to meet some of the wonderful Mother’s Choice family from all around the world. Kaye Dong, our Australian Alumni Champion and a foster mum, shares her Mother’s Choice journey and how she embodies our vision ‘every child in a loving family’.
How did you first get involved with Mother’s Choice?
“When I first moved to Hong Kong, I was looking for volunteering opportunities that aligned with my passion for children’s causes. That’s when I came across Mother’s Choice. It didn’t take long for me to fall in love with the organisation. The dedication towards making a difference in the lives of young girls and children just really moved me. I knew very quickly that I wanted to be part of the mission.”
Can you tell us about your Mother’s Choice journey?
“My journey with Mother’s Choice has evolved quite significantly over the years. My involvement began with volunteering at fundraising events. It then expanded to supporting different initiatives and running workshops for the children in care. This allowed me to have a more direct impact on the lives of those we serve. In recent years, I’ve been serving on the Marketing Communications Committee and Board of Directors.
Yet, one of the most impactful experiences on my Mother’s Choice journey has been our participation in Project Bridge. Since 2015, my family has had the privilege of fostering seven children, providing them with a nurturing, safe & loving temporary home. This has changed my family forever.”
Is there a moment that stands out as your most meaningful at Mother’s Choice?
“It’s impossible to pinpoint a favourite. But the most meaningful ones would be each time we witness our foster children meet their forever mummies and daddies for the first time.”
As our Australian alumni champion, what does this role mean to you?
“Mother’s Choice will always have a special place in my heart. It is much more than just an NGO – it represents the spirit of love and compassion, courage and hope, strength and resilience. No matter where we are in the world, this spirit lives on inside us. The alumni is a beautiful way for the Mother’s Choice family to stay connected. When we get together, we eat, we drink, we laugh, we tell stories and we are reminded of how much Mother’s Choice has changed our lives.”
What are your hopes for the future of Mother’s Choice?
“My dream for the future would be that every child is nurtured in a loving home, making the need for Mother’s Choice a thing of the past. When this happens, we’ll know that we have fulfilled our mission.”
