Kit Ying Chan, a passionate advocate for the welfare of children, currently holds the position of Community Ambassador at Mother's Choice since October 2022. She played a pioneering role in the organization, starting as its first local volunteer in 1987, and eventually becoming its first staff member in 1988 after receiving a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and Sociology from the University of Guelph. Throughout her impressive career spanning over 35 years, Kit Ying has been unwavering in her commitment to supporting vulnerable children and young girls facing or at risk of facing crisis pregnancy in both Hong Kong and mainland China. She embarked on a mission to address the crisis of widespread baby abandonment in China's state orphanages and founded the groundbreaking "Guangxi-Hong Kong Mother's Love Orphanage", which was a joint venture between Civil Affairs Bureau of Guangxi and Mother’s Choice, in Nanning, 1995. Her book, Hidden Treasures: A Letter to the Children of Mother’s Love, offered a telescopic and powerful true story of this unique journey. Kit Ying continued in the capacity of Director of Services overseeing children, youth, and family services after returning Hong Kong in 2011, leading her team in providing life-transforming services, before retiring from being the Director of Community Services in September 2022, where she focused on encompassing Community Education and Volunteer Engagement. Embarking on a new season and adventure, Kit Ying now resides in one of Hong Kong's most vulnerable neighborhoods, further deepening her love and commitment to this city as she brings her vision of community hubs to life.
...My work was simply a continuation of those who came before me, I simply picked up the baton to continue the work of building a better future for the next generation. Ms Kit Ying Chan, Hidden Treasures: A Letter to the Children of Mother’s Love
