Each year, we select a theme that carries us throughout the year based on one of our five core values. This past year, our focus was on Community, and so our theme was dedicated to “Our Hong Kong Family”. We have seen how powerful it is when our community works together to turn crisis into hope. Everyone has a role to play, and everyone can make a difference. Here are some highlights of this past year from each of our Services:
We find families for children who are in the residential child care system, because we know that a child’s life story can change when they grow up in a safe, loving and permanent family. Here is one story about how we prepare children for family: Click here to Chi Man’s story.
COVID-19 has had an impact on our Pregnant Girls Services, especially in the early part of 2020 where we saw a sharp increase in calls to our crisis hotline. Conversely, it made it harder to introduce and bring girls into our hostel. We turned to technology to produce this video to give girls and their families a virtual tour of our facilities: Click here to view the video.
We equip families with the knowledge and skills to care for their children and connect them with community support, because we know that no one can travel the lifelong journey of parenting alone. In November 2020, we shared some special stories of families built through adoption as part of Adoption Awareness Month. Thanks to your support, we helped to build strong adoptive families, including these: Click here to view more videos.
We collaborate across our community, because we know that everyone has a role to play and together we can transform our city. Our Youth Leadership Council is an important platform for the voice of Hong Kong’s youth to be heard. We are so proud of their work during Adoption Awareness Month to help build awareness of adoption in their school communities: Click here to read more.
